Men of Joy Ministries - The Church Where Man Is Not In God's Way
The Mission
Our mission is to positively impact this country and our world one man, one household and one family at a time by helping men to become humble, saved, servant leaders and priests of their respective homes and families.
How is the Mission Executed?
The church ministers directly to men through group conversations, in person fellowships, community service, bible based teaching and “real talk” supported by the omnipresent aid of the Holy Spirit and technology.
The MOJ Vision
Our vision is to spiritually change the world one man, one family at a time.
Who are we?
We are a nationwide, non denominational, virtual, Christian church for men. We follow the bible based teachings and direction of the Father, His Son, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
Our men come from every ethnicity, socio-economic background and walk of life. Our church membership is composed of imperfect and flawed adult men with adult challenges, working to “be better” for the benefit of our families and loved ones. In the vein of Ephesians 2:8 we are sinners, saved by grace.
We believe that if the man FIRST focuses on getting himself aligned spiritually, all that he is hoping and praying for will fall into alignment. Said another way If the man works to become “right” and aligned spiritually everything he touches and everything that is important to him will also be “right” and in order. Experience has shown us that this cannot be done alone. This is where Men of Joy comes in.
We are always ready and willing to open our hearts and provide an "open chair" to any other brother willing to commit himself to the tenets and standards of this group.
In early 2000, the Pastor of the New Salem Baptist Church announced to a stunned congregation, in Wednesday evening bible study, that the church would no longer be conducting corporate bible study every Wednesday as it had for as far back as anyone could remember. He shared a vision for a new decentralized "small group" structure where small groups of 10 - 15 members would come together on their own at church or in their homes to study the word. The heavenly guided intention was to move the congregation to a higher level of study and engagement with God's word. Although many didn't want to acknowledge it to themselves the reality is that the congregation had become too comfortable coming, sitting and being spoon fed the word each week. They were in effect sitting in spiritual high chairs being fed "spiritual milk". The time to get out of those spiritual high chairs and begin to feed themselves "spiritual biblical meat" had come. Small groups were designed to create a much more active study, participation and engagement with God's word.
The Birth of MOJ
One of the very first small groups formed was by a group of men of varying ages, from all walks of life and with all types of spiritual experience and backgrounds who accepted the Pastor’s challenge to get out of their “spiritual high chair”. This group came to be known as the Men of Joy. The first meeting occurred in 2000 at the home of one of the New Salem Deacon on the northwest side of Columbus.
MOJ Tenets
The group was founded on the tenets of Transparency, Commitment, Consistency and Confidentiality. From the first meeting it was clear that none of the men had ever been a part of anything like MOJ before. So they came back the next week and the week after that and the week after that. And they have been doing so since 2000 without interruption.
MOJ Continues to Grow
From this group several other all male small groups were "birthed" including but not limited to Men of Purpose, Men of Standard and Men of Destiny which still are active and meet to this day.
MOJ Nationwide Daily Fellowship
In late 2011, a 7 day a week, nationwide fellowship and prayer call, where Men come together on a secure conference line to study God's word, fellowship and minister to each other was birthed. It has been ongoing 365 days a week uninterrupted everyday since its inception. In late 2016 the call extended to twice a day, with an AM call and a PM call. The nationwide call enabled the blessings of MOJ to extend to men in states across the country including but not limited to Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Arizona, Texas, Georgia and Kentucky.
The Annual “Halftime” Retreat
From this group an annual retreat dubbed "Halftime" began in 2012. Each spring, men from around the country come together at a mountain retreat in the hills of Tennessee to fellowship, encourage, instruct and challenge each other. (see testimonials)
